Where Rarity
Begins

Every GOLDEN HIVE variety is sourced from a single botanical origin in a single geographic location — each one as unrepeatable as a grand cru wine. The ecosystem defines the honey; the season defines the jar.

New Zealand • Bay of Plenty
Mānuka Monofloral
Harvested from remote Leptospermum scoparium stands above 800m elevation. Cold-pressed raw, never heated above 35°C. The benchmark of antibacterial potency.
UMF 25+  ·  MGO 1200+
Yemen • Hadramawt Valley
Sidr Al-Assal
From wild Ziziphus spina-christi trees in isolated Yemeni valleys. One harvest per year during October bloom. Ancient spice route provenance in every spoonful.
Single-origin  ·  Polyphenol-rich
Pitcairn Island • South Pacific
Pitcairn Wildflower
Earth's most remote certified organic honey. No roads, no pesticides, no pollution — 50 km² of untouched Pacific flora. Fewer than 400 jars produced annually.
Certified Organic  ·  400 jars/yr
Italy • Friuli-Venezia Giulia
Acacia Bianca
From ancient Robinia forests along the Isonzo River. Pale crystal clarity with vanilla and jasmine. The purest expression of Italian floriculture — harvested during the brief May bloom.
PDO Protected  ·  12-day harvest

Founded

Ancient Practice,
Uncompromised

GOLDEN HIVE traces its lineage to 1887, when founder Edmund Ashwell established the first treatment-free apiary in the Bay of Plenty. Four generations later, we manage fewer than 300 hives across our global partner apiaries — each one chosen for ecological remoteness and botanical singularity.

We refuse supplemental feeding, synthetic treatments, and queen replacement schedules. Our bees follow the season; our harvests follow the bees. The hive dictates the yield — never the market.

Treatment-Free
Zero synthetic inputs — no oxalic acid, no antibiotics, no miticides. Natural colony strength only.
Single-Source
Each product originates from one apiary, one botanical species, one harvest season.
Cold-Pressed
Never heated above 35°C — the hive's natural temperature — preserving full enzyme activity.
Numbered Jars
Every jar bears its harvest number, hive identifier, extraction date, and beekeeper initials.

Limited Edition
Archive

Four times yearly, GOLDEN HIVE issues a numbered collector release — extraordinary honeys from exceptional seasons, rare florals, or experimental aging. Once sold, never restocked.

The Art of
Pairing

Each honey varietal reveals different facets depending on what accompanies it. Our master blender has curated the definitive pairings for cheese, whisky, and tea.

Cheese Pairings
Whisky Pairings
Tea Pairings
Mānuka Reserve
Aged Manchego
The earthy depth of UMF 25+ Mānuka meets the caramel crystalline structure of 24-month Manchego — medicinal sweetness amplified by lanolin-rich fat.
Sidr Al-Assal
Époisses de Bourgogne
The washed-rind pungency of Époisses is tamed and elevated by Sidr's warm butterscotch resonance. A pairing of two ancient traditions — Yemeni and Burgundian.
Acacia Bianca
Fresh Chèvre
The crystal-clear delicacy of Italian Acacia mirrors the lactic brightness of young goat cheese — neither overwhelms, both transcend. Finish with Amalfi lemon zest.
Mānuka Reserve
Highland Single Malt
The medicinal heather notes of a 21-year Dalmore harmonise with Mānuka's UMF potency. One drop of honey transforms the dram — never stirs, only dissolves slowly on the tongue.
Sidr Aged in Oak
Armagnac
Already rested in ex-Armagnac barrels, this honey sings alongside vintage Armagnac — a circular conversation of wood, vanilla, and ancient sweetness from two continents.
Pitcairn Wildflower
Japanese Whisky
The floral, mineral complexity of Pitcairn meets the quiet precision of Yamazaki 18 — Pacific nature reflected in Eastern distillation. A transcontinental collaboration.
Acacia Bianca
First Flush Darjeeling
The Muscatel character of a March-picked first flush Darjeeling is the mirror image of Acacia's floral sweetness — a pairing that needs nothing else.
Mānuka Reserve
Genmaicha
The toasty rice notes of Genmaicha provide a savoury counterpoint to Mānuka's medicinal weight — unusual but undeniable. Serve at 75°C, honey added last.
Pitcairn Wildflower
White Silver Needle
Earth's most remote honey with China's most delicate white tea. The shared qualities — lightness, terroir purity, brevity of season — create perfect resonance.

What Masters
Say

"
"The Mānuka Storm Reserve is unlike anything I have encountered in thirty years behind a pass. It does not sweeten a dish — it reveals dimensions within it. I use three drops where I once used a tablespoon of anything else."
Chef Héloïse Vandermeersch
3 Michelin Stars  ·  Brussels
"
"I have collected Pitcairn Wildflower since the first batch in 2019. Each year is categorically different — same island, same bees, a completely new narrative. It is the only food product I buy as a collector rather than a consumer."
James Whitmore-Gray
Food Collector  ·  London
"
"In two decades writing about artisan producers, GOLDEN HIVE remains the definitive expression of what honey can be when human restraint refuses to interfere. The Sidr Al-Assal is a civilisation in a jar."
