Discipline is the Only True Strength
The way of the warrior is not violence. It is clarity, respect, and the quiet authority that comes from mastery over oneself.
The warrior acts from principle, not emotion. Gi — moral rectitude — means doing what is right even when no one watches. It is the foundation of all the other virtues.
Yu demands action in the face of fear. True courage is not the absence of fear but the judgment to know when fear must be overcome and the will to overcome it.
Jiritsu — self-discipline — is the daily practice of choosing discomfort over ease. The body trained under strict constraint becomes the instrument of a free mind.
Four disciplines, one code. Each path demands total commitment and rewards with a mastery that extends far beyond the mat.
The way of the sword. Kendo develops explosive precision, footwork, and mental presence through shinai sparring and kata. Beginners through to dan grade training available.

The gentle way. Judo teaches balance, leverage, and the art of using an opponent's force against them. Competition and randori training both offered.

The art of the foot and fist. Taekwondo develops explosive kicks, speed, and tactical awareness. Olympic-style sport and traditional ITF patterns both taught.

Our purpose-built dojo spans 4,000 square feet of traditional tatami and sprung hardwood flooring. The space was designed to honour the weight of practice.
Main Training Hall — 2,400 sq ft of high-density tatami with 5-metre ceiling height and wall-mounted mirror systems.
Weapons Armoury — Full selection of training shinai, bokken, naginata, and safety equipment available for all enrolled students.
Philosophy Library — 200-volume collection of martial arts texts, strategy manuals, and practitioner biographies open to all students.
Meditation Room — A separate space for pre-training zazen and post-session reflection. Silence is observed at all times.
A structured progression built on the principle that mastery must be earned, not given. Each stage prepares the student for the next challenge.
Stance, breathing, and falling safely. Every warrior begins with the body. The first stage strips away all ego and builds a foundation that will support years of development.
Pre-arranged forms encode centuries of wisdom. Through repetition of kata, the principles of each art enter the body and become reflexive rather than deliberate.
Controlled contact with partners of varying skill levels tests the kata in dynamic conditions. Students learn that technique only exists if it functions under pressure.
Technical mastery without philosophical grounding produces a dangerous but limited practitioner. Study sessions on Bushido code, strategy, and ethics run in parallel with physical training.
Examination is not a test of performance but of character. Students are assessed on composure, consistency, and respect as much as technical execution.
A lineage of masters, a tradition of excellence, and a school that has never compromised on the standards it demands.
Sensei Haruki Tanaka establishes the Bushido school in Shinjuku, drawing on his lineage of four generations of kendo masters.
The school opens its London dojo in Shoreditch, the first Western outpost of the Bushido tradition outside Japan.
Bushido students take gold in kendo and silver in judo at the British Martial Arts National Championships in Manchester.
The school moves to its purpose-built 4,000 sq ft training facility, the largest traditional martial arts dojo in central London.
Enrolment is open year-round. New cohorts begin each month. Submit your application and our admissions team will arrange a complimentary trial session within five working days.
