Three Qualities
of Light

At IGNIS, we classify every candle by its flame behaviour — the quality of light it produces determines the atmosphere it creates.

Type I

STILL

An upright, unwavering flame with no perceptible movement. Creates the quality of light found in sacred spaces — churches, libraries, rooms of concentrated thought. For focus. For solitude.

Type II

DANCING

A responsive flame that moves with air currents in the room. The light shifts and dances on surfaces, creating the warmth of inhabited presence. For evenings. For company. For wine.

Type III

PULSE

A rhythmic flame that breathes at a steady 0.8-second interval. The effect mimics a living presence — a heartbeat at the edge of perception. For intimacy. For ritual. For transition.

Sourcing
Sourcing

The Material

We use only domestic beeswax and soy wax, sourced from a single apiary in the Ardennes forest. No paraffin. No petroleum. The origin of the wax determines the character of the flame.

Blending
Blending

The Fragrance

Each scent is composed of three layers: the departure (what you smell first), the body (what remains at room temperature), and the residue (what the wax leaves when the flame goes out).

Pouring
Pouring

The Pour

Poured at exactly 54°C into hand-formed concrete vessels. At this temperature, the fragrance binds completely with the wax structure. Batch size: never more than 60 candles.

What the Candle
Actually Does

Ember light study
EMBER — 23:00
"This is what the room looks like an hour after dinner. The shadows are long. The conversation has gotten honest."
Nocte light study
NOCTE — 21:30
"The dancing flame does something to the bookshelves. They become a forest. You stop wanting to leave."

How to Light IGNIS

A candle lit without intention is just wax on fire. These four acts transform the act of lighting into something with weight.

I

Be Still First

Before lighting, hold the vessel for ten seconds. The warmth of your hands begins the fragrance release before the flame touches the wick.

II

Trim to 6mm

A long wick produces smoke and soot, not light. The precision of the trim determines the quality of the burn. This is engineering, not ritual.

III

First Burn: Two Hours

The first burn sets the wax memory. Allow the melt pool to reach full diameter before extinguishing. This determines every subsequent burn.

IV

Extinguish Without Drama

Use a snuffer, not breath. The residual smoke after the flame dies is part of the scent composition. It is not waste. It is the ending.
